Medical Jargon Meme
At my most recent neurology appointment, my neurologist referred to a medication as "PRN." I asked what "PRN" stood for, and he did not know either. We looked it up together and learned that it stands for the Latin phrase "pro re nata," which means "on occasion."
This conversation inspired me to make this meme. In my experience, doctors often speak to me using medical jargon that an untrained person cannot be reasonably expected to understand. This conversation reminded me that sometimes professionals don't understand the jargon and acronyms they use.
